Dick Whittington

Dick Whittington is once again saving London from the rats and not before time some would say. Well we try our best. With a lot off effort by members of the Players we can enjoy a newly refurbished village hall, new lighting, new sound and new stage setl. Big thanks to the Village Hall Trustees and to the Lottery Fund who made it possible. In these new surroundings Dick Whittington took to the stage in front of a full house - the Milborne Players have an excellent reputation for putting on a spectacular pantomime. The script was jam packed with quips and jokes as well as some very topical side lines thrown in for good measure. Always a few first night nerves but once rolling a barrage of quick wit and a good script got the audience reeling with laughter from start to finish. Sarah Tthe Cook (Jon Riddle) played a great part and managed extremely well in a pair of high heels not exatley made for comfort. Together with Idle Jack (Gren Elphinestone-Davis) a sound base was created for a typical slap stick pantomime, even down to the cream pies! There was a stroke of genius from our stage manager (Andy Coetzee), a large remote controlled rat that was seen to fly across the stage at appropriate moments much to every bodies amusement. Of course King Rat (Roy Sach) was in complete charge and commanded a gang of whiskered vermin who ran among the cast on stage.

Alice Brock made an very suitable Dick Whittington and was more than ably accompanied by Alice Fitzwarren (Emma Whitting) who had caught his eye. There are parts that some people are just born to play and the Sultan's daughter Florabunda (Caroline Nobbs) was just that, played to a tee! All good pantomimes have a fairy and this one was no different with a good performance by Sally Potter playing Fairy Bowbelle. These parts and other can be seen in the slide show started by clicking on the poster at the top of the phots on the left.

Mention must be made of Spade (Jo South, Shovel (lauren House, Captain Bilgewater/Sultan (Bill Preston) and Alderwoman Fitzwarren (Maureen Lock). And finally we must not forget to mention the cat - how could we! "Tommy" the cat (Beth Leonard) was perhaps the cutest panto cat there has ever been. Talented to the point of a sparkly bowler hat and cane routine - smart cat!, she played a great part and was a delight to enjoy.

One final mention, the costumes as you will be able to see from the slide show were fabulous. A very big "well done" to all concerned, you must have spent hours of your time but what a result! A very big thanks form all involved.

So thats it again till we all starts panto rehearsals again next September. In the mean time we start rehearsing for the next production scheduled for performance on 11th/12th June 2010 so look forward to seeing you all then. Thank you every body for your support and encouragement your involvement is important and appreciated.
