Blithe Spirit

The Milborne Players' production of Noel Coward's enduringly popular supernatural comedy "Blithe Spirit." It tells the story of author Charles Condomine, who wants background material for his new work featuring a clairvoyant medium. To gain information about the "Tricks of the trade," he invites eccentric Madame Arcati to perform a seance at his home. Unfortunately, Madame Arcati succeeds in bringing back much more than poor Charles had bargained for!

The author wrote Blithe Spirit in five days when on holiday in Wales. The play was first staged in 1941 and has remained popular ever since, with occasional London and Broadway revivals. A film was made in 1945. and a television version in the 1950s.

Noel Coward was brilliant with words, and he uses a great many of them in his script. This makes the play quite a challenge for an amateur group.
